What It Is
Affordable housing is a critical issue facing many communities worldwide, and it’s important to constantly adapt to new realities, ensuring everyone has access to affordable housing options. By proactively adapting to new realities, including innovative solutions, we can work together, increasing the amount of affordable housing for economically challenged members of society.
This year’s Symposium will look at the following factors, addressing considerations to meet needs. Our goal is creating sustainable affordable housing and inclusive communities for the future.
Diana Nyad, World Champion athlete, renowned inspirational speaker, and author, captivated 25 million people worldwide when she completed her 35-year quest to swim from Cuba to Florida on September 2, 2013, demonstrating the power of the human spirit with her words “Never Ever Give Up” and capturing hearts with the recent depiction of her life in the 2023 Oscar-nominated film NYAD, starring Annette Bening and Jodie Foster. As a prominent sports journalist for over thirty years, Diana has contributed to National Public Radio, The New York Times, and more, with her memoir Find a Way and an OpEd on childhood sexual abuse receiving global acclaim. In 2019, she performed her play “The Swimmer” at the off-Broadway Minetta Lane Theater. Diana co-founded EverWalk, a nationwide walking initiative, and OceansCommit, promoting environmental responsibility. She is also an inductee into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame and the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame. Diana’s personal connection to affordable housing is the story of her brother who found himself unhoused for a number of years and her commitment to finding him the support he needed.
