NHPF has spent the first quarter producing and sharing valuable research with the affordable housing ecosphere and beyond.

NHPF is releasing jointly with Enterprise Community Partners Growing Up & Out of Poverty: Enhancing Academic Success Through the Intersection of Housing and Education. This report encompasses information from the 2020 NHPF Symposium and a national study of 500 educators examining where children, families, and schools are today one year since the beginning of the pandemic and lessons to improve the quality of academic and home life for all.

NHPF also worked with SAHF (Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future) to query its owner-members about life in affordable housing this past year. The Owners of Affordable Housing Survey served as a companion piece to NHPF’s recent Pandemic-Weary Parents Survey of 1,000 low to middle income renters across the country. Of the studies, Richard F. Burns, President & CEO, NHPF says “Comparing what our industry peers say about coping with Covid-19 against what residents say gives a very complete picture of life in affordable housing one year into the pandemic. We see some lessons learned that can benefit both groups.”

Interestingly, the lesson that links all three studies above is the importance of providing services and support to children and families.

 

A Calvin Mowbray & Stephen Camper Park Community Resident Story

The Early Learning Readiness (ELR) Program (ELRP) at the Operation Pathways community center at the Calvin Mowbray and Stephen Camper Park Community in Cambridge, Maryland is a partnership between Operation Pathways, The John and Janice Wyatt (J2W) Foundation, and the Robbins Family YMCA.

NHPF Receives a $5.5 Million Capital Magnet Fund Grant Award

The NHP Foundation is pleased to announce it was awarded $5.5 million from the Treasury Department’s Capital Magnet Fund (CMF) to continue its work preserving and creating affordable rental housing throughout the United States.

“This grant enables NHPF to continue evolving housing opportunities from today’s rich array of options to provide paths up and out of poverty for families,” said Mansur Abdul-Malik, Vice President, Development, NHPF. “Furthering our partnership with The City ensures a smooth process for the work needed to leverage this important grant.”
